Snappy and hip, slick but pleasingly showing evidence of the hand of the creator; Sleep Late is the smallest of the laminated page books that the press has made. Paper ephemera from the world over creates the visual narrative sandwiched between plastic'like flys in amber'. The revealtion in turning the pages sets up intertextural puns and cliches between the elements. The laminated pages were sewn onto binders cloth hinges by Mark Wagner, then bound in the Coptic style to plexiglass boards. The title refers to a Beastie Boys song in which one man says to another:" You're stupid..." "Wha..." says the second man, " You should sleep late man, it is much easier on your constitution...".
This book can be read at Dean Constance Woo's L.I.U. library in lovely downtown Brooklyn.
