The first large format laminate book by the press is a continuation of packaging design study. The 4 U series is hereby reformatted into a hefty tome of translucent juxtstaposed images. The laminated pages are machine sewn onto binder's cloth hinges, and then Coptic bound to plexi-glass covers. The binder's clothe and thread exchange value in the middle of the book into a wide spectrum of hues and shades. The collaged material is from all over the world and is the story of one consumer of images. These packages caught my eye; for what was in them, or what represented what was once in them. What qualities do the product's packaging project? What icons and colors are utilized? What story do these things tell? When grouped together they form a dialog of cultures throughout space and time. The ability to mediate these plastic pages means that revelation comes with premonition and surprise. Dieter Rot's collection of all the paper that crossed his hands for a week was an inspiration for this one. Obsessive collecting and ordering of refuse? YeeHaw! Can be read at Library of Constance Woo.
