A Book Called Palestine is a collaborative codex by Organik (Kurt Allerslev, Marshall Weber and Christopher Wilde). In 2005 Organik took a stack of WildeÕs Beeholder Doublehand paper on a tour of Germany and Amsterdam collecting rubbings wherever and whenever possible. Back in New York the group painted over and around the various rubbings. Then Weber took the stack of paper to Australia and did another extensive layer of rubbings. All the artists focused on procuring rubbings from monuments and memorials with contentious histories. Back in the USA the sheets were folded to collided various aesthetic structures and subject matters. C.K.W. then bound the sheets into an enigmatic codex with a scalloped fore edge, revealing the books interior from the front cover to deep into the text block. Organik then added various page activations in assorted media in the final pass. This book confronts the post-colonial 21st Century with a series of incantations, bewildering hexes, and spells gathered from many occult spiritual traditions designed to perplex and provoke.
The media and techniques used are as follows: wax crayon and graphite rubbing and drawing, ink aspiration and brush painting with hand ground (blessed by Aboriginal elders and used with permission) Australian ochre (iron oxide mineral), tumeric, black pepper, roofing copper, PVA, cotton, hemp, hair, goat leather, parchment; and Beeholder Doublehand paper made in Stevens Point, Wisconsin with master paper maker Jeff Morin. The paper contains an entire haircut's worth of C.K.W.'s hair acting as a genetic signature embedded in the hemp and cotton double couched hand print watermarked sheets.
the binding is cotton thread over parchment tapes, with a paper and PVA reinforcement on the spine and glue in boards. The leather was hot debossed over the stove with door handles with the assistence of Zon Wakest.
