The Birch and the Willow follow the fence line down to the river bend. There is a willow Where the waters roll by to lowlands from high. On mountain's side stands a birch where the wind breathes by from lowlands to high. water tumbles down bringing soft leaves of promise Wind scales lofty as hawk and crow climb through scented salvos It was not always so: Once trees roamed as children in the night, All whispers and rustling The willow and the birch did meet; With roots wrestling and nesting -Loved they there then. the willow wanted water always, so in river's bend nestled, the birch could not abide, and went to mountain side. Now their branches implore the sky for rain to touch both where they reside, willow at river's bend and birch on mountain high.
