A unique book of color photographs, many taken by Marshall's sister Raimie, collaged with calligraphy and ephemera. The front piece is a photo-sculpture by Mattias Jaramillo. Mark Wagner procured the two manipulated, antique steel plate engravings of Cyrus McCormick from the Wisconsin State Historical Society. "Built Up" is an ethereal essay using minimal image placement to activate the tactile and visual elements of the various papers, book pages and page spreads of the book. These activations construct subtle and oblique metaphors for the urbanization of pastoral America. Assorted fine machine and handmade papers in gray tones collected, collated and Tapes bound onto Mokuba ribbon by C. K. Wilde. The covers are made with a decorative Hosho paper punctuated by a series of small portals with photographic inserts.
