Citadel of promise

Author: C.K.Wilde
Edition: 1
Year: 1999

A collage book made during the spring semester of ninteen ninty nine for the students at the Center for the book arts and Cooper union. Each classroom session would find the book one stage further along on the road to compleation, the idea being that the students would watch the process of the nascent book coming into being. A boon of stamps from a dusty attic led to a collage going 110 MPH in overt response to Walter Hamady's critisism that all wilde's books "...start out going ninety miles an hour..." The mechanics of pacing visually and narritivly were explored and reworked obsessivly, the final book has a grace and economy despite it's detailing and large page faces. The book is tapes bound with irredescent blue and champagne silk wrapped boards and joined foredges hide the sewing and aid in the stability of the pages.

This book can be read at the Yale Sterling Arts of the book collection.
