Trans is a collection of rubbings from Europe and New York City. Trans is an aleatory mapping of the Trans Europa / Trans Atlantic Express and experience, the transcendental qualities of travel and the translation of environment to a tactile and visual form. The large format of the book, its dramatic action and crisp sound of the pages turning combine with the page activations (cut-aways, layerings and other techniques) and the subtle texts interwoven through the imagery to produce dreamlike sensations of travel not dissimilar to the feelings one gets when one stares at ones feet during a long journey - realizing that the floor is as entrancing as the passing view outside the window.The rubbings are from Germany, Holland and New York City. Media used: wax crayon and graphite rubbing and drawing on mylar, with red leather spine and copper post binding.
